Artist Statement

In “Abstract Sunflower,” I distill the sunflower’s radiant energy into a landscape of color and texture. Bold ochres and vivid yellows radiate from a tactile core, dissolving into deep blues and greens that speak to earth’s embrace. This abstraction mirrors the sunflower’s role in many cultures as a symbol of loyalty, resilience, and healing light.

My process—layered glazing, impasto highlights, and dry-brush scumbling—reflects the plant’s journey from seed to blossom. Each brushstroke captures a moment of transformation, inviting viewers to sense the pulse of summer fields and the quiet strength that carries through seasons. By removing literal form, I open space for personal reflection, hoping each person finds their own spark of warmth and renewal in the painting’s glow.
